What Is My Level?

Would you like to register for French courses at Alliance Française Ottawa? The first step is to take our ELAO+ online placement test, a modern assessment tool that evaluates your French proficiency quickly, accurately, and entirely online.

If you are a complete beginner, you do not need to take the test. Simply register directly for level A1.1. This level is designed for learners who have never studied French and have no prior knowledge of the language.

The ELAO+ placement test is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and evaluates your language skills to help place you in the course that best matches your needs.

THE BENEFITS OF THE ELAO+ PLACEMENT TEST

  • 100% online
  • Accessible on computers, tablets, and smartphones
  • Assesses both written and oral language skills
  • Results valid for 6 months at Alliance Française Ottawa
  • Average duration: 30 to 40 minutes
  • Available wherever you are, whenever it is convenient for you

Having a clear understanding of your French proficiency level will help you choose the most appropriate course and maximize your progress.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The ELAO+ placement test includes:

  • an adaptive assessment of language skills (grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and listening comprehension);

At the end of the test, you will receive a level recommendation that will help us guide you toward the most suitable course.
