Bursary Program

Supporting French learning, for everyone

Launched in November 2025, the Alliance Française Ottawa Bursary Program aims to reduce financial barriers faced by many individuals who wish to learn or improve their French.

This program seeks to make French language learning more accessible, inclusive, and equitable, by offering a free group class to motivated learners looking to integrate, study, or work in French.

Thanks to the support of committed partners and funds raised during our Gala, Alliance Française Ottawa intends to make this bursary program a long-term initiative serving the community.

 

About the bursaries

AFO bursaries may cover part or all of tuition fees, depending on the applicant’s profile and available funding.

Bursaries apply to:

  • French group courses at Alliance Française Ottawa (subject to availability)
  • One specific session

Textbooks and learning materials are generally not included, unless otherwise specified.

The number of bursaries awarded each year is limited and depends on available funding and decisions made by the selection committee.

 

Eligibility criteria

The bursary program is open to all learners, regardless of age, provided they meet the following criteria:

  • Never have been previously enrolled at the Alliance Française Ottawa
  • Demonstrate strong motivation and commitment to learning French
  • Show financial need (supporting documents may be required)
  • Complete a level assessment to ensure appropriate course placement
  • Be available to attend a class matching their level and schedule

❌ This program is not intended for individuals preparing exclusively for TEF or TCF exams.

Selected applicants are expected to:

  • Complete the full course session
  • Uphold Alliance Française Ottawa values: respect, integrity, diversity, and commitment

Incomplete applications or those lacking clear motivation will not be considered.

Please complete the bursary application form below with detailed and accurate information.
