Ottawa capital of flowers, trees and festivals
The city of Ottawa was chosen in 1857 by Queen Victoria to be the capital of Canada. Today, it is the fourth largest city in Canada.
It has a Victorian architecture that can be seen on Parliament Hill and during the visit of downtown area dotted with many buildings with remarkable architecture.
It is a city of water because it was built on the Ottawa River and has a large part of the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with eight locks that are still in operation and are entirely manual.
With these waters, Ottawa is a green city, as the city’s design likes to show. The city has at least ten parks with remarkable trees and offers many green spaces.

Also known as the “peaceful oasis of downtown”, this park is lined with green lawns and majestic trees, also known as remarkable because of their age and size.
Another place that offers vegetation and freshness is Dow Lake. It is a small artificial lake created on the Rideau Canal. In the summer, it offers walking and water trails, and other activities in a soothing setting under majestic trees with benches and lounge chairs along the way. In winter, it becomes an outdoor skating rink connected to the Rideau Canal for over 7 kilometers.
